What Are You Reading Thursdays {4}

What Are You Reading Thursdays is a new feature I’m starting to discuss what we are reading that week. Each week we will feature the book we are reading and talk about it, tell what we like about it, what we don’t like about it and discuss what it’s about. Feel free to follow along with us and share in the comments what you are reading this week or post on your blog as well.

This week my book is:
Embrace by Jessica Shirvington

What I Like:
To be honest, I just started reading this book. I'm only on chapter 3, so I haven't really got too far into it, but so far the story has pulled me in and I can't wait to see what happens.

What I Don't Like:
As I stated above, I haven't read that far into it, so I don't have any objections to it as of now.

The Cover:
I think this cover is absolutely GORGEOUS! I'm a fan of purple so the background color is beautiful. The model crouching in a sitting position as if she is praying about something, with the touch of feathers around her is also great. But what I love most about this cover is the smoky wings!

Blurb:
Violet Eden is dreading her seventeenth birthday dinner. After all, it s hard to get too excited about the day that marks the anniversary of your mother s death. The one bright spot is that Lincoln will be there. Sexy, mature and aloof, he is Violet s idea of perfection. But why does he seem so reluctant to be anything more than a friend? After he gives her the world s most incredible kiss and then abandons her on her front doorstep Violet is determined to get some answers. But nothing could have prepared her for Lincoln s explanation: he is Grigori part angel and part human and Violet is his eternal partner.Without warning, Violet s world is turned upside down. She never believed in God, let alone angels. But there s no denying the strange changes in her body ... and her feelings for Lincoln. Suddenly, she can t stand to be around him. Luckily, Phoenix, an exiled angel, has come into her life. He s intense and enigmatic, but at least he never lied to her.As Violet gets caught up in an ancient battle between dark and light, she must choose her path. The wrong choice could cost not only her life, but her eternity...

Reading Chain: The Girl In the Park by Mariah Fredericks

When Wendy Geller's body is found in Central Park after the night of a rager, newspaper headlines scream,"Death in the Park: Party Girl Found Strangled." But shy Rain, once Wendy's best friend, knows there was more to Wendy than just "party girl." As she struggles to separate the friend she knew from the tangle of gossip and headlines, Rain becomes determined to discover the truth about the murder.

Written in a voice at once immediate, riveting, and utterly convincing, Mariah Frederick's mystery brilliantly exposes the cracks in this exclusive New York City world and the teenagers that move within it.

Book Review: The Girl In the Park by Mariah Fredericks

Title: The Girl In the Park
Author: Mariah Fredericks
Publisher: Random House Children's Books
Genre: YA Contemporary, Crime/Mystery
Release Date: April 24, 2012
Source: paperback, Random Buzzers

My Review:
I thought at first, "I'm not sure about this". However, I'm glad I kept reading. This was a very well written crime/mystery young adult novel. I have to say, I'm not really one for those types, because I'm such a softie, and will cry with just about anything, haha. But this was very good and pulls you right into Rain's world.

Rain is shy and conservative and doesn't like conflict, whose best friend is murdered fairly early on in the book. We follow Rain and she tries to find her friend, Wendy's, killer. We follow her through memories of her friendship and of life.

As you continue to read on about this horrific event you start to wonder who did it you can actually place yourself into this wonderful book and watch every thing unfold right in front of you. It's like you are actually there with Rain trying to figure everything out.

I will admit, one of the main reasons I don't like reading books like this is because I can usually assume who the murderer is ahead of time. This one left it open for me and I was torn between two people. But as the story progressed, I was drawn more towards one than the other. The reveal of the killer will shock you in the end.

Final Thoughts:
Very well written, a great read for readers that enjoy a good Young Adult Contemporary mixed with Crime/Mystery.

Follow Friday (11)

Follow Friday is a weekly event hosted

Q: BeefcakeandBabes Asks: I like unique names for characters and am looking forward to coming up with some when I start writing. What’s the most unique character name you’ve come across?

Well, I recently came across a few unique character names as I was browsing books at Goodreads. One of which is Aoife from The Nightmare Garden. When I saw her name, it caught me off-guard because I have never seen that name before, so naturally, I had a hard time pronouncing it. Another name I came across was Zardi from The Book of Wonders, that one wasn’t as hard to pronounce, haha. And lastly, but not least, another one that I recently came across is Vespa from The Unnaturalists, I have heard the name before and have always liked it.

***Note: For some reason only known to my computer, I cannot leave comments on others blogs, it's not fully signing me in, but I will guarantee that I will follow you back if you are new or if I'm not currently following you. ***
