Big-hearted Chloe Camden is the queen of her universe until her best friend shreds her reputation and her school counselor axes her junior independent study project. Chloe is forced to take on a meaningful project in order to pass, and so she joins her school's struggling radio station, where the other students don't find her too queenly. Ostracized by her former BFs and struggling with her beloved Grams's mental deterioration, lonely Chloe ends up hosting a call-in show that gets the station much-needed publicity and, in the end, trouble. She also befriends radio techie and loner Duncan Moore, a quiet soul with a romantic heart. On and off the air, Chloe faces her loneliness and helps others find the fun and joy in everyday life. Readers will fall in love with Chloe as she falls in love with the radio station and the misfits who call it home.
My Review:
What can I say about this book, but, WOW. This book was simply amazing from start to finish. It has everything, from the classic friendship fights to family problems to falling in love. With a strong female lead and the “across the tracks” kind of guy. You really couldn’t ask for anything more.
I really love the fact that, Chloe, not only has problems of her own, but she also tries to help others with problems as well. She’s a comedian, a friend (or tries to be the best she can), a daughter, has a great fashion sense for vintage shoes and also an outcast, so to speak.
While you have Duncan, the across-the-tracks kind of boy, which is everything Chloe is not. He is charming, in the reserved sort of way. He doesn’t talk much, doesn’t have much of a social life and is constantly tired or fixing things. But aside from all that, he still manages to make time for Chloe and the radio station.
The writer has a unique sense and way of making the reader intrigued and engulfed into the story. She can just drag you into it and get your imagination to run wild. I actually found myself researching the different types of shoes our heroine wears in this novel. And, as I too have a grandparent suffering from Parkinson’s disease, this one hit home with her grandmother, as she has Parkinson’s.
Final Thoughts:
I highly recommend this book to anyone young at heart, that likes a good YA romance with a little high school drama.
