Follow Friday (4)

Follow Friday is a weekly event hosted

Q: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!

A: My biggest pet peeve, hmmm, this is a hard one, I actually have a couple.

1. I don't like typos or errors. I once read a book where the whole sentence structure was way off, it just didn't make sense how they worded everything. I had to read and reread it like 6 times before I could even piece together what the writer was getting at. Horrible.

2. I don't like excessive cursing. If you just throw it in casually, that's fine, but if every other word is f-this and f-that, then I won't read it and I will walk away. A book just isn't enjoyable if I have to go through that, I can't even stand it out in public.

3. I don't like whiny main characters. I don't want to hear them complain all the time, I hear enough of that at home, LoL.

4. Last, but not least, I don't like it when the writer takes forever to get to the point in a book or goes into way too much detail about one item in a book.

I know that I'm a picky person when I read, but hey, that's just who I am. LoL.

You are allowed to be picky! Yeah whining so not cool. We get that enough in real life...

Hi there! New follower! You know, I think it's good to be a picky person when it comes to books. If we weren't picky than any old thing would pass as good literature. Can't let that happen. =) I completely agree with every one of your points. And I thought the cursing one was especially relevant. I hate excessive cursing as well. To me, curse words are still words with meaning. They have a purpose. To just throw them out willy nilly with no purpose toward character development is unreasonable.

Hey, I am with you every step of the way here, all of those things can kill an otherwise potentially great book. Happy FF ;)

Too much profanity is unncessary. I feel like authors use such language because they lack the skills necessary to describe one's feelings in a mature manner. Great blog!

My biggest pet peeve is spelling mistakes for sure. If an author can't be bothered to properly proofread their book why should I take the time to read it?

It's not that you're picky! I agree with every one of those. Typos are my big thing, though. I correct them everywhere I go... :)

I enjoyed reading your pet peeves and completely agree with all of them, especially the last one. If it takes an author too long to get to the point, I will walk away from the book because I am frustrated.

Happy Reading,

Yeah, I'm not a fan of typos--especially when it's a book from a big publisher with the resources to do better. I understand one or two, but when the book is rife with them it's seriously dissapointing.

And OH MY GOODNESS YES to point 4: I hate it when you read a book and a really thin plotline is drawn out over 350 and pages! I mean, get on with it!

I agree with all of the points above! So, so true. It's all about being natural though when it comes to cussing and writing... Great answers! Hope you had a wonderful weekend & thanks for stoopping by! Following back!
