After a bizarre accident, Ingrid Waverly is forced to leave London with her mother and younger sister, Gabby, trading a world full of fancy dresses and society events for the unfamiliar city of Paris.

In Paris there are no grand balls or glittering parties, and, disturbingly, the house Ingrid’s twin brother, Grayson, found for them isn’t a house at all. It’s an abandoned abbey, its roof lined with stone gargoyles that could almost be mistaken for living, breathing creatures.

And Grayson has gone missing.

No one seems to know of his whereabouts but Luc, a devastatingly handsome servant at their new home.

Ingrid is sure her twin isn’t dead—she can feel it deep in her soul—but she knows he’s in grave danger. It will be up to her and Gabby to navigate the twisted path to Grayson, a path that will lead Ingrid on a discovery of dark secrets and otherworldly truths. And she’ll learn that once they are uncovered, they can never again be buried.

Let me just first say that this book was pretty amazing. I went into this book not knowing that this is about gargoyles. The cover of it through me off, I thought that it was beautiful, and by looking at the cover, I knew it was about Paris, and possibly angels. This book had the angels but the main focus was demons and gargoyles, which I absolutely loved!

The characters were very well written and believable. I really enjoyed Ingrid’s character as well as Luc’s. I thought that they were the perfect pair from the start. Gabby was very stubborn and reminded me of a few people I know, haha. But she was strong and determined, and that’s what I liked.

The story was unlike anything that I have read before. I really loved the gargoyle aspect of things and the shifting and changing. That reminded me of how werewolves changed and it was a pleasant change to read it about these wonderfully creepy, yet beautiful creatures. I have always been fascinated with gargoyles and I’m glad this book brought attention to them.

I really can’t wait to read book two to this wonderful series!
