[Blog Tour] The Shadow Prince by Bree Despain Review + Giveaway @EgmontUSA @breedespain

Welcome to my stop on The Shadow Prince blog tour! Today I have my thoughts on this amazing book plus 2 giveaways! That's right, 2! I will be hosting a giveaway for one ARC copy (US only) and one finished copy (US/CAN only, sent via Egmont USA).

Haden Lord, the disgraced prince of the Underrealm, has been sent to the mortal world to entice a girl into returning with him to the land of the dead. Posing as a student at Olympus Hills High—a haven for children of the rich and famous—Haden must single out the one girl rumored to be able to restore immortality to his race.

Daphne Raines has dreams much bigger than her tiny southern Utah town, so when her rock star dad suddenly reappears, offering her full tuition to Olympus Hills High’s prestigious music program, she sees an opportunity to catch the break she needs to make it as a singer. But upon moving into her estranged father’s mansion in California, and attending her glamorous new school, Daphne soon realizes she isn’t the only student in Olympus who doesn’t quite belong.

Haden and Daphne—destined for each other—know nothing of the true stakes their fated courtship entails. As war between the gods brews, the teenagers’ lives collide. But Daphne won’t be wooed easily and when it seems their prophesied link could happen, Haden realizes something he never intended—he’s fallen in love. Now to save themselves, Haden and Daphne must rewrite their destinies. But as their destinies change, so do the fates of both their worlds.

I have often said that I don’t normally read the synopsis first before deciding if I want to read the book or not. I normally look at the covers, if the covers catch my eye, then I am normally pulled into the book. Sometimes I will glance at the synopsis and decide from there, but this time, I didn’t do either of that. The title of the book pulled me in. I am so glad that it did too…

When I first started to read this, I didn’t know that this was going to be about Greek god, Hades. And it’s not totally all about him either. This is about his realm and the Skylords, better known as Zeus and his realm. About the battle between them and the gang of teenagers who are stuck in the middle. Namely two, Haden, a descendent of Hades, and Daphne, a mortal teenager who wants nothing more than to escape her small town life and become a rock star.

I really enjoy how this book took off from the start for me. It wasn’t hard to get into and was a smooth read from start to finish. It gave some background to the reader about Hades and the underworld and some insight to the Skylords, Zeus and Orpheus. I also enjoyed the different point of views between Haden and Daphne. The chapters took turns between the two.

The characters were very likeable. The contrast between them was great. From underlord, to rock star, determination, preppy, stuck up, snobby, and rebellion. It was a wonderful cast of characters. I don’t think that I could name my favorite one.

I highly recommend this to readers. And once you read this, make sure you keep a lookout for the upcoming sequel.

Because it's been too long since I've had a read from Bree.

It has a mythology basis! Plus it seems really romantic.
