Release Date: August 26th 2014

Summary from Goodreads:
Connor's family moves to Amity to escape shady business deals. Ten years later, Gwen's family moves to Amity for a fresh start after she's recovered from a psychotic break.

But something is not right about this secluded house. Connor's nights are plagued with gore-filled dreams of demons and destruction. Dreams he kind of likes. Gwen has lurid visions of corpses that aren't there and bleeding blisters that disappear in the blink of an eye. She knows Amity is evil and she must get her family out, but who would ever believe her?

Amity isn't just a house. She is a living force, bent on manipulating her inhabitants to her twisted will. She will use Connor and Gwen to bring about a bloody end as she's done before. As she'll do again.

Alternating between parallel narratives, Amity is a tense and terrifying tale suggested by true-crime events that will satisfy even the most demanding horror fan.

Amity was a bit different. It's based on the account of two separate people and their families from two different times. There is a 10 year span between the two, so you are constantly going back and forth between the two people, Conner and Gwen. It got to be a bit confusing at times. I also had high hopes that this would be more scary than it actually was, I mean, it's about Amity house, it should be scary, right? I got just over half way through with the book and realized that it really wasn't that scary at all. I didn't peek over my book and search the room for ooky spooky things or jump at the smallest sounds.

Now, even though this was not a all out scary thriller of a book, it was, in fact, very creepy. Conner was quite disturbing with his fascinations over blood and wanting to hurt certain people. Gwen was a bit off as well as both families. I also enjoyed the writing style of Ostow's. She brings a different type of style to the table. Very fresh and very creepy.

If you are looking for a good creepy book, I would suggest this one. However, go into knowing that it isn't quite up to par with Stephen King (as some people might think), and it does take a bit to get into the good scenes. Suggested for ages 14 and older.

Micol Ostow has written dozens of books for children, tweens, and teens, but Amity is her first foray into horror. I turns out, writing a ghost story is almost more terrifying than reading one. (In a good way.) Her novel family was called a “Favorite Book of 2011” by Liz Burns at School Library Journal, and her illustrated novel, So Punk Rock (and Other Ways to Disappoint Your Mother), was a Sydney Taylor Notable Book for Teens. In her spare time, Ostow blogs with the National Book Award-winning literacy initiative readergirlz.com. She lives in Brooklyn, NY, with her husband, her (utterly fearless) daughter, and a finicky French bulldog named Bridget Jones.

I got the netgalley for this and man, I just wasn't impressed. I think other people will be. I wasn't because I love the Amityville Horror legend (movies and books too) so much.

I just love stories of the supernatural, and not just of supernatural beings like vamps and witches. Ghosts and entities intrigue me!
