Never, ever cry... Seventeen-year-old Eureka won't let anyone close enough to feel her pain. After her mother was killed in a freak accident, the things she used to love hold no meaning. She wants to escape, but one thing holds her back: Ander, the boy who is everywhere she goes, whose turquoise eyes are like the ocean. And then Eureka uncovers an ancient tale of romance and heartbreak, about a girl who cried an entire continent into the sea. Suddenly her mother's death and Ander's appearance seem connected, and her life takes on dark undercurrents that don't make sense. Can everything you love be washed away?

I am never disappointed with any Lauren Kate book I read. This book was phenomenal! It had me entranced from beginning to end and left me wanting to know what happens.

I really loved the whole idea of this amazing story! I have always been fascinated by the stories of Atlantis. So when I read the blurb on this book, I knew I had to read it. Even if it didn't mention anything about Atlantis, just the idea of someone crying a continent into the sea? Now that deserves a read!

Eureka is such a strong person. I don't know what I would do if I lost one of my parents. I don't think that I would have gone as far as Eureka did by trying to commit suicide though. It seems everyone is against her, making her try to forget she lost her mom just a few months prior to the events taking place. Her step-mom is total witch, and that is putting it mildly. I was a step-parent for 10 years (still consider myself one now), and I didn't treat the kids the way she treats Reka. She tells her what to do and how to be, and seems to make all the decisions with her regarding her life without consulting her husband. Now maybe I was a cool step-parent, but I always made sure I cleared things that affected the kids with my ex first, just because they simply were not mine.

Brooks, he seemed like a cool guy. He was fun, laid back and understanding. He had a thing for Eureka but didn't push the subject with her. He also was understanding with her about her mom. Since they grew up together, they were like family. It wasn't until the middle of the book where I started to not like him. (You'll have to read it to find out why).

Ander was a mystery. He always seemed to be there where Eureka was, but no one ever saw him watching. I admit, the watching thing is pretty creepy, but there is a good explanation for it in the book. I would love to meet someone like Ander, especially with the eyes like turquoise. He's also quite passionate about things, which is another plus for me.

There were some aspects that I didn't quite like. For one, Eureka kept pushing people away. Okay, so her mom died, I understand, but when someone is trying to help you, you would think that you would want it. You would want someone to lean on for support. She just didn't seem to trust anyone enough for that, especially her dad. There was also the fact that her twins brother and sister are four years old but acted like they were a bit older at some points in the book and then they acted like an actual four year old in other parts (I have a four year old, so I know the difference). Also, everyone is pushing for Eureka to forget about her mom, even her shrink. I don't know if that's how shrink's really are, but you would think that they would want you to embrace what happened so you can move on, not forget about it, and especially forget about someone you love, someone who brought you into the world.

Because of some of the things I didn't like I decided to give this a 4 star rating out of 5. I do highly recommend this book to anyone who loves mythology and fantasy. Even if you haven't read anything by Lauren Kate in the past, you should read this! I think this will make you a huge fan!

Waiting on Wednesday #WoW @laurenkatebooks

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. It's to spotlight upcoming reads which I can't wait to get my hands on.

This week my book is:
Teardrop (Teardrop #1) by Lauren Kate
Release date: October 22nd, 2013

Never, ever cry. . . . Eureka Boudreaux's mother drilled that rule into her daughter years ago. But now her mother is gone, and everywhere Eureka goes he is there: Ander, the tall, pale blond boy who seems to know things he shouldn't, who tells Eureka she is in grave danger, who comes closer to making her cry than anyone has before.

But Ander doesn't know Eureka's darkest secret: ever since her mother drowned in a freak accident, Eureka wishes she were dead, too. She has little left that she cares about, just her oldest friend, Brooks, and a strange inheritance—a locket, a letter, a mysterious stone, and an ancient book no one understands. The book contains a haunting tale about a girl who got her heart broken and cried an entire continent into the sea. Eureka is about to discover that the ancient tale is more than a story, that Ander might be telling the truth . . . and that her life has far darker undercurrents than she ever imagined. From Lauren Kate comes an epic saga of heart-stopping romance, devastating secrets, and dark magic . . . a world where everything you love can be washed away.

Fallen becomes a motion picture

The gothic fantasy adventure is based on Lauren Kate's best-selling YA book series about fallen angels and forbidden love.

As the movie business scrambles to discover the next Twilight, the long-gestating film adaptation of Lauren Kate's Fallen is gaining momentum.

Australian filmmaker Scott Hicks -- who earned Oscar nominations for writing and directing 1996's Shine -- is in final negotiations to direct Fallen for Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray's Mayhem Pictures and IF Entertainment, Bill Johnson's new financing and sales entity.

Fallen is the first in a series of four books, which have sold nearly 10 million copies worldwide in more than 30 countries.Kathryn Price and Nicole Millard penned the adapted screenplay in what Mayhem and IF Entertainment hope is the beginning of a franchise.

Billed as a Southern gothic supernatural romance, Fallenrevolves around 17-year-old Lucinda "Luce" Price, who is sent to a reform school in Savannah, Ga., after she is accused of starting a fire that leaves a young boy dead. Soon, Luce finds herself in the middle of a love triangle – courting two young men with dark secrets of their own.

On a quest to uncover secrets from her past, the shy Luce discovers the two are fallen angels, competing for her love for centuries. Luce must choose where her feelings lie, pitting heaven against hell in an epic battle over true love.

IF began shopping the movie adaptation to foreign buyers at the American Film Market in November, and Fallen drew heated interest -- even without a director or cast. The addition of Hicks, whose credits also include The Lucky One and No Reservations,  should make Fallen all the more appealing as IF continues shopping the project at the European Film Market in Berlin.

Kate's books have been translated into more than 30 languages, with Fallen spending a year-plus onThe New York Times best-seller list after its release in 2009. The three subsequent books --Torment, Passion and Rapture -- also were best-sellers.

Mayhem originally set up the project at Disney, but it was put into turnaround.
Hicks is repped by CAA, which is repping domestic rights for the film.

Lauren Kate Answers Your Questions

Lauren Kate recently took time out from writing her new book, Rapture, to answer some questions from her fans emails, here is what she had said.....

  ABOUT THE BOOKS
What is this surprise new book "Fallen in Love" about?!

Luce and Daniel's relationship is emblematic for eternal love--but their story is not the only kind of love. This is a book inspired by you, my readers, who have shared your love stories with me from the beginning and shown me how many different shapes love takes. Set far back through the Announcers--somewhere between Passion and Rapture--Fallen in Love is a grand tour of romance that reaches through time and through hearts. Get a little bit closer to knowing the eternity of Luce and Daniel--and swoon as Miles, Shelby, Roland, and Arriane navigate their hearts' destinies.

See what happens between the lines of the Fallen Series, and fall in love, again, forever.  Fallen in Love comes to bookstores across Canada and the United States of January 24, 2012! And in the UK on February 2, 2012! More details on release dates around the world coming soon...
What drew you to the idea of fallen angels?
I’ve been writing love stories for as long as I’ve been writing. To me, the most complicated romances make the most interesting narratives, so I’m always looking for new obstacles to throw in my lovers’ paths. When I was getting my masters degree in fiction, I was studying biblical narratives and came across a line in Genesis (6:1-4), which describes a group of angels who fell in love with mortal women. Putting this reference together with a mention in Isaiah and another in Palsm 82, biblical scholars conclude that these angels were actually cast out of Heaven for their lust. Which means—you could say—that these angels chose love over Heaven. Isn’t that a great set up for an incredibly complicated romance? I started thinking about what kind of mortal girl it would take to attract an angel’s attention. And what it would be like for her to find herself in this position. What kind of baggage would an angel have? What would her very over-protective parents think? From there, this whole world unfurled in my head with fallen angels, demons, reincarnation, and the war between good and evil all battling for a piece of the action. Who is Luce based on? What does she look like to you? Which character are you most like? The physical traits of Luce (pronounced Loose) are based on my oldest, closest friend—the dark wavy hair, hazel eyes, tiny teeth, etc. When I first started writing her, I pulled some personality traits from this friend, but as I continued with her story, Luce veered away from my friend into an identity of her own. I share some traits with her—like her stubbornness and tendency to get swept away by romance. There is probably a little bit of me and a little bit of everyone I know and love in all the characters.

As for the settings of the schools in the books, everything is fictional, but like the characters, they’re based on a compilation of things I’ve experienced.

Did you struggle in coming up with any of the characters?Daniel was the most challenging, mainly because the full truth of his character has to come to light very slowly over the course of the entire series in order for the books to work. By now, I’ve really come to love Daniel and I can understand why he’s been the way he’s been with Luce. But I like to think of him as a work in progress, a developing story, and someone who, above all, knows Luce better than anyone else (including herself), and has her best interest at heart.
