The Final Six by Alexandra Monir: A ARC Review

Title: The Final Six
Author: Alexandra Monir
Publisher: HarperTeen
Publish Date: March 6th 2018
Pages: 345

When Leo, an Italian championship swimmer, and Naomi, a science genius from California, are two of the twenty-four teens drafted into the International Space Training Camp, their lives are forever altered. After erratic climate change has made Earth a dangerous place to live, the fate of the population rests on the shoulders of the final six who will be scouting a new planet. Intense training, global scrutiny, and cutthroat opponents are only a few of the hurdles the contestants must endure in this competition.

For Leo, the prospect of traveling to Europa—Jupiter’s moon—to help resettle humankind is just the sense of purpose he’s been yearning for since losing his entire family in the flooding of Rome. Naomi, after learning of a similar space mission that mysteriously failed, suspects the ISTC isn’t being up front with them about what’s at risk.

As the race to the final six advances, the tests get more challenging—even deadly. With pressure mounting, Naomi finds an unexpected friend in Leo, and the two grow closer with each mind-boggling experience they encounter. But it’s only when the finalists become fewer and their destinies grow nearer that the two can fathom the full weight of everything at stake: the world, the stars, and their lives.

This was a fast paced sci-fi dystopian book. It roped me in from the beginning and had me page turning every step of the way to find out what happens next. I really enjoy this authors writing style and I can't wait to read more of her books, as this is the second book by Monir that I have had the chance to read.

In this one we have two perspectives, but it wasn't confusing, which was a nice change. Leo and Naomi. Leo seems very genuine and Naomi is head strong. And they both embark on this mission for different reasons. While Leo is gun hoe about going since he has nothing left for in his flooded Rome, Naomi is resistant and a bit hesitant about going due to leaving her ill brother behind. These two unlikely teens share a bond and you can see that right from the start.

I really enjoyed this book and I'm hoping for a sequel as this ended on a cliffhanger. If you like dystopian and science fiction and space travel, then this book is just for you.

Ally by Anna Banks: An ARC Book Review

Title: Ally (Nemesis #2)
Author: Anna Banks
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Release Date: October 3rd 2017

Purchase: Amazon | Book Depository

Princess Sepora of Serubel and King Tarik of Theoria have formed an uneasy truce between their kingdoms since the deadly plague began to rip through Theoria. Since their feelings for each other are entangled in politics and power, they must use their own trusted resources to find common ground.

But when traitors with powerful allies arise from unexpected places, Tarik and Sepora face challenges that will change both of their kingdoms forever. Will they learn whom to trust—including each other—in time to save their kingdoms, their relationship and even their lives?

I really enjoyed Ally. It was a very good sequel to Nemesis and what seems like a good closing to these 5 kingdoms. There was action, reconciliation, romance, betrayal, death, unity. Everything that makes a great conclusion to an action packed story.

I'm really glad for the way this story turned and how it ended. I don't want to go in to too much detail because I want you to go get the book and read t for yourself and draw your own conclusions. I will say this, you won't be disappointed.

The only thing I would change is the cover to this book. It should be Tarik in his gold paint and headdress just like we had Sepora in silver on the first one.

Anna Banks grew up in a small town called Niceville (yes, really). She now lives in Crestview, Florida, with her husband and their daughter. She is the author of the novel Of Poseidon.

ARC Review: Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller @TriciaLevensell @FeiwelFriends #ARCReview #BookReview

Title: Daughter of the Pirate King
Author: Tricia Levenseller
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Release Date: February 28th, 2017

Purchase: Amazon

A 17-year-old pirate captain intentionally allows herself to get captured by enemy pirates in this thrilling YA adventure.

If you want something done right . . .

When the ruthless pirate king learns of a legendary treasure map hidden on an enemy ship, his daughter, Alosa, knows there's only one pirate for the job—herself. Leaving behind her beloved ship and crew, Alosa deliberately facilitates her own kidnapping to ensure her passage on the ship, confident in her ability to overcome any obstacle. After all, who's going to suspect a seventeen-year-old girl locked in a cell? Then she meets the (surprisingly perceptive and unfairly attractive) first mate, Riden, who is charged with finding out all her secrets. Now it's down to a battle of wits and will . . . . Can Alosa find the map and escape before Riden figures out her plan?

This book has been on my TBR for a while. When I saw it available to review I jumped at the chance and glad I did. For me, this was a quick read and I got it done in little more than 2 days. I enjoyed the action and adventure and, let's face it, there is a female pirate ad the main character, how awesome is that?

I liked how the author described the characters but didn't overly describe them and go in to too much depth. Sometimes that can just be a drag and makes the reader not sure if they want to go on and read the rest. I also really liked Alosa's and Riden's characters and even some of the crews characters. We read a little of Alosa and Riden's backgrounds but its tastefully scattered throughout the book. Not all in one lump.

The entire book starts out with action right from the first page. Which was really great for me. It had a way of pulling you right in for one heck of a great adventure. The ending leaves it open for book number 2, and I for one, can't wait to get my hands on that.

I think this is a book that should make it to everyone's TBR lists. Especially if you like pirates and female heroism.

Tricia Levenseller writes historical fantasies for young adult readers. Her debut, DAUGHTER OF THE PIRATE KING, is set to release Feb. 2017 from Feiwel and Friends, an imprint of Macmillan Publishers.

Initially from a small town in Oregon, Tricia now lives next to the Rocky Mountains with her bossy dog, Rosy.
