I love Romily's work. I really loved her series, Find Me. When I was sent this for review, I was so ecstatic and then I shelved it and forgot about it, whoops. But then I picked it up to read. I actually had to put it down because I didn't know if I was going to like it. At first, this was way confusing and irritating, going back and forth between the past and present. I mean, literally, each chapter went back and forth. One chapter was the present and the next it was the past. I actually put this down and starting working on other projects (like my crafting) for a few weeks. I read some reviews and every review I read was raving about it. So, because I absolutely loved her other work, I decided to give it a try again. I was really glad that I did. This story moved quickly and I read it in 2 days, which is not an easy feat for me since I have 2 kids and a new dog that requires my full attention haha. 

So we have 4 main characters. Grace, Jem, Ander and Finn. It starts off with Grace and Ander running through a swamp, trying to get away from Finn because they think he's trying to kill them again. Yep, you heard that right, again. Then we are thrown into a past/present type telling. We hear about the past which coincides with the present and what Grace is going through at present. Throughout the book, we learn of her different "falls" and we get to see what everyone is like. I, myself, wasn't too fond of Ander from the beginning, he just felt kind of shady and just not good for Grace. But of course, as the saying goes, you can't help who you love. I really want to go into more detail on this, but I really don't want to spoil the book for everyone.

This quickly turned into a fast paced thriller/love story/mystery. I really enjoyed it. I suggest that you go pick it up and find out for yourself.

I had a hard time with the latest installment to the 'Princess Diaries' series. Maybe it's because the last time I read the series it was over 6 years ago and Princess Mia was still maybe 16 years old and a bit immature. However, when you come back to it, it's still written in diary format, but Princess Mia is now 25, her father is being arrested, her stepfather has passed away, and her longtime boyfriend is about to propose, all the while she still acts like she's a teenager and not in her mid twenties.

While I liked the concept of coming back and revisiting Princess Mia and the gang, I really think this one should have been left the way it was.I may try to re-read this in the future, but as for now, I could not finish this one, but still give it 3 stars simply because it's the Princess Diaries.

I don't know what to say by this one. I was totally blown away! I took part in the blog tour about a month or so ago but never got the chance to read the book until now. I am so glad that I did, this was out of the norm for me in a lot of ways. And sometimes it's good to break out of your comfort zone to experience new things.

This book was all about mystery, romance, horror and suspense. It left the reader wondering if Calliope really did commit murder or if she was going mentally insane. I, for one, was left second guessing everything in this from beginning to end. I was thinking that she did it but blocked it from her memory to maybe her mom did it, or her ex-boyfriend Elijah, her boyfriend John or even her foster sister, Lindsey. Everyone was suspicious in their own way, which made this a very awesome read that you just couldn't put down until the shocking ending that left you with closure to everything that happened.

I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good psychological thriller and page turner.

Q: Why did you chose to write about graphomania?

A: Graphomania chose me, in a way. Oblivion was a premise I wrote for years before I found the best canvas on which to tell the tale. Callie always wrote obsessively, but in earlier drafts, it was more akin to her wanting to organize her thoughts with a journal. Diana Dru Botsford (Sci-Fi extraordinaire) suggested during a critique session that I make Callie's writing more compulsive than obsessive, and it worked!

Q: Most writers when they create characters they reflect a little of themselves into that character. Is there any similarities between you and Calliope?

A: There is a little bit of me in every character I write. Callie and I have a few things in common: When I was in high school, I didn't live with anyone in my biological family. I know how it feels to subsist on the kindness of others, and I also know the conundrum of attempting to stand up for myself while essentially sponging off another family. I borrowed clothes, ate as little as possible, and like Callie, I wondered about the sanity of my parents. The circumstances surrounding Callie's relationship with John is loosely based on my experience in finding myself drawn to a guy my pseudo-sister had claimed as hers, despite the fact that he obviously had no interest in her. That said, none of the tale is autobiographic. 

Q: What is the significance with the color red? (i.e. red felt tip pen, red writing on walls, ruby baby ring, crimson door, etc)

A: I don't know. Some things happen without my consent. Greg Ferguson at Egmont suggested Callie always write with the same type of pen, and the red felt tip raised its hand. The ruby baby ring: I have a small marquise ruby ring. It fits on my little finger. I might've been wearing it when Callie needed something to fiddle with.

Q: A little off the book. What is with your fascination with Thomas Jefferson?

A: TJ is my boyfriend, and my fiancé Joshua is extremely supportive of the relationship. Who doesn't love a six-foot-two-and-a-half farmer/ architect/lawyer/doctor/designer?

Book Review: League of Strays

Wow, so where do I start? Well, I can honestly say that this book is not at all what I expected. I was intrigued by the cover at first. Just his eyes were enough to pull me in. Then I read the blurb on the back cover...I thought that this would be a pretty good read. And don't get me wrong, it was good, but it wasn't as great as I thought that it would be.

The writer is very articulate and the way they wrote this, it was not hard to imagine everything. I enjoy a book where you can visualize the story unfolding. If I can't visualize it, it's lost to me. Unfortunately for me, I had to put this book down a few times in the beginning before I could finally get lost into this book.

The characters are complex, but that's what brings this story to life. At first Kade's motives are questionable, but soon realize that there is something more to the story. Once the story starts to unfold we start to see the struggles the characters have to face and what Charlotte will do to try to stop them.

Charlotte's character is actually quite strong and she is the main one that can see Kade for what he really is worth once she can make it past his mesmerizing eyes. Zoe is one of my favorites, however, with her intense attitude toward things and people.

My final thoughts on this book are that this is a good read for people that enjoy mysteries, slight thrillers and contemporary pieces. I would recommend this book to anyone 13 years of age and older.

My Review:

I’ve been wanting to read this book for so long. I wanted to read it before it hit shelves. Then I finally got my hands on a copy of it 2-3 months ago. I have been falling behind on my reading and reviews because I didn’t have internet, and then when I finally got it back, my computer didn’t work. But during that time, I finally took the time to read this book. My first impression was that it was just alright. I didn’t really want to read about some stuck up blonde that thought she was better than everyone, I saw enough of that in high school. But as I started to read, I started to get into it and I found this to be a quite enjoyable book.

Will was my favorite character. I always seem to fall for the type of guy that no one wants to be around. I just love the mystery of them. And Will has plenty of mystery. He keeps to himself, and his secrets as well.

Alona on the other hand, she’s not all super preppy. She does have some depth to her. And you do get a chance to see a glimpse into her life through her afterlife.

Final Thoughts:

I thought this to be a very enjoyable first book to the trilogy and cannot wait to read Queen of the Dead, and the latest, Body and Soul.

My Review:
I thought at first, "I'm not sure about this". However, I'm glad I kept reading. This was a very well written crime/mystery young adult novel. I have to say, I'm not really one for those types, because I'm such a softie, and will cry with just about anything, haha. But this was very good and pulls you right into Rain's world.

Rain is shy and conservative and doesn't like conflict, whose best friend is murdered fairly early on in the book. We follow Rain and she tries to find her friend, Wendy's, killer. We follow her through memories of her friendship and of life.

As you continue to read on about this horrific event you start to wonder who did it you can actually place yourself into this wonderful book and watch every thing unfold right in front of you. It's like you are actually there with Rain trying to figure everything out.

I will admit, one of the main reasons I don't like reading books like this is because I can usually assume who the murderer is ahead of time. This one left it open for me and I was torn between two people. But as the story progressed, I was drawn more towards one than the other. The reveal of the killer will shock you in the end.

Final Thoughts:
Very well written, a great read for readers that enjoy a good Young Adult Contemporary mixed with Crime/Mystery.

My Review:

I've been wanting to read this book since it hit the shelves in 2010. Thankfully, because of Ruby's giveaway at Ruby Reads, I not only get the chance to read it, but I actually get to own a copy!

Katarina Bishop is a determined 15 year old, so determined that she leaves the family business to attend a private school. When something happens and she is forced to leave school, she gets pulled back into the family ways.

Think of Oceans Eleven meets The Breakfast Club. The writer pulled me right into the story and made me feel like I knew what it would be like to be a thief. Fun, fast-paced and dangerous.

Kat and Hale have a wonderful chemestry between them. It's refreshing. They aren't just thrown together for the sake of the book. There are genuine feelings between them that have developed through their whole union as friends and partners. It's a delightful change from your everyday teen romance. But at the same time, you want to push them together to rid them of the ever so present tension.

Ending Thoughts:
This is a great first book to what I hope will be a great series. I can't wait to read Uncommon Criminals, the sequel to this book.

My Review:

I simply don't know what to say about this book. I'll be honest, it wasn't as great as I thought that it would be, even though I just had to finish it.

For me, I had to try to imagine what it would be like in this rich, preppy, high clad, high class society in order for me understand some of it. I will be perfectly honest, I didn't even know some of the brands of things that the writer was talking about half the time.

I did, however, enjoy that the writer took you through the lives of these four girls as they grew apart, I mean, you didn't go through 7th grade to 10th grade with each of them. You saw how their lives were in 7th grade before their friend, Ali, disappeared, and then you saw them three years later as their lives were coming back together again. Each chapter was about a different girl and what they were going through, it didn't jump around in one chapter, which I actually liked.

As for how it turned out...I honestly didn't expect the ending. I also enjoy a book where you don't know what's going to happen. Or that you are thinking, "well, this is how I think it's going to be" and then at the end, it surprises you.

I have to say, my heart felt bad for the character known as Spencer. She did something that was unforgettable, I wouldn't say unforgivable, and then to be treated the way she was by her parents just made me quite upset.

As for my rating. I simply gave it 3 of 5 stars because I was expecting more and I didn't get it. I was a little disappointed in that. I love Sara Shepard as an author though. I'm currently reading her The Lying Game series now.

My Review:

This was an excellent book from start to finish in which I received from netGalley and the publisher. I jumped right into the book and didn't even realize that it was a Christian book right away.

This book has good Christian and family values and touches on those moments very frequently throughout the novel. As for myself, coming from a Christian background, I could relate quite easily with some of the family closeness and traditions. This book made me want to pull out my Bible again and start reading it.

The author did some amazing research into ovarian cancer, touching some of the feelings Leigh was going through and what she had to go through with the cancer and the challenges she could still face.

I loved Leigh. Her self struggles to overcome what she went through and to get to where she was. Her stubbornness and independence very likeable, even the little knowledge she had for guys, made this leading character amazing.

Leigh's brother, Jaron, was simply one of the best brothers someone could ask for. Very understanding and a rock for his little sister, but also very protective.

The story dealt with a lot of social situations from dating to love, marriage and children. It had touched on many good points. Some of the situations had brought me to tears, not at all bawling like a baby tears, just slight tears because of either experiences I went through myself or the sympathy I felt for the character.

This is again, a very excellent book. Even if you aren't a Christian, I still recommend the book. I recommend this book to any young adult 16 and over, Christians and non-Christians alike. I had to give this book 5 of 5 stars for the great writing, research and how this story comes to life with the great emotion put into this wonderful story.
